CARE is seeking to recruit an experienced, committed, and suitable
professional to fill the following vacancy to support the seventh phase
of Gaza Strip NGO Safety Office (GANSO VII) project funded by ECHO
The Gaza NGO Safety Office (GANSO) is a project hosted by CARE
International and funded by the European Commission’s Directorate
General for Humanitarian Aid (ECHO). The aim of the project is to
provide the information and analysis the NGO community needs in order to
implement humanitarian projects safely in the Gaza Strip. GANSO has up
to 150 Member Organizations, both Palestinian and International NGOs.

*Research Analyst*

Job number #: 5/2013
Location: Gaza
Reports to: GANSO  Project Director
Start date: As soon as possible
Position type and duration: 10 months (renewable upon funding continuation)
Summary:  Supported by the PD, the Research Analyst is responsible for
the drafting of the Bi-Weekly Report, which includes a summary of
incidents and events placed in a larger political, social and economic
context in order to inform the decision making of INGOs. The RA will
also work with the PD on any necessary production of specialized reports
and/or advisories as well as the production and delivery of Monthly
Briefings and orientation briefings. The RA is responsible, in close
coordination with the PD, for writing specialized reports or sections of
reports and advisories designed to enhance the safety and security of
the humanitarian community in the Gaza strip.
*The RA will also :*
-Gather information and conduct research on the national/local context,
which may include regular meetings with member organizations and
security staff
-Prepare application of analysis for any emerging trends and/or impact
on safety of the NGO community in Gaza
-Work on thematic issues to include INGO training needs, helping to
facilitate/coordinate as necessary
-As required, facilitate the logistic support required for delivery of
Monthly Briefings
-Be ready, along with other members of the Team, to field questions that
arise during briefing or in day to day contact with member organizations.

*Required Education:*
-A Bachelor’s Degree in development, social/political sciences or
journalism with an emphasis on analytical writing
-Demonstrated political/social/economic analysis skills
-Exceptional English writing skills and research ability
-Ability to work under pressure and against deadlines
-Understanding of the history, politics and culture of the Middle East
-Knowledge of INGO and UN security management systems
Desired: Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Gender studies, Economic
Development or other related fields
*Required Experience:*
-3-5 years of experience working with NGOs preferably in a complex
and/or conflict/post-conflict setting
-Experience of work in the Middle East and familiarity with the society
and culture
-Experience of working in a multi-cultural and diverse environment
Desired: Security management or organizational Focal Point experience,
Knowledge and experience of carrying out site surveys and security
assessments

*Other critical skills:*
-A proven ability to work independently or within a small team
-Skilled in the use of all MS Office applications especially Excel and
Publisher
-Excellent communication skills and an enthusiasm to learn
-Experience of presentation and workshop facilitation
Desired: Arabic language skills an advantage, Experience in delivery of
training, database management experience, knowledge and experience of
VHF radio and satellite communications and GPS systems
